Padayani is the one of the Noteworthy folk art form of Kerala .Padayani is the art with trace of  ancient  Dravidian culture and ritualistic form of worship also. With the art Padayani they worship goddess kali. Kali is the one of the mother goddess of Dravidian culture.
Padayani is a performing art but it formed and performed with the composition of arts like dance, music shortly it composed of all arts. The time of performance is in night ,in the light of torches and nilavilakku.
Padayani is performed traditionally February ,March and April in Devi Temples of central travencore.
The myth behind the festivel is ,Once every one was disturbed with the astocities of an asura named as Dharaka ,the met Lord shiva for help but he is not in a position to kill the asura,Dhraka get a grace from brahma by the grace no men could kill him , the fool dharaka is not aware about the power of women.So lord shiva gave birth to Mother Kali from his third eye, Kali went to Asuara and killed him,but after it she couldn’e stopher anger,to stop the anger devas  performed many entertainments
