Kerala is governed via a parliamentary system.Elections have been made to select the respectivecandidates for the legislative assembly. Assembly meetings are presided over by the Speaker and in his absence by the Deputy Speaker. Kerala has 140 Assembly seats The state sends 20 members to the Lok Sabha and 9 to the Rajya Sabha. If a party needs ruling power then they need atleast 71 seats.The Governor of Kerala is the constitutional head of state, and is appointed by the President of India. The two major parties in kerala are the UDF and the LDF. BJP also trying to make an impact on the assembly elections. Normally for the elections in Kerala it is seen that for a period of 5 years, if UDF is ruling then in the next 5 years it will be LDF.
